Tutorial, design and reflection

After the introduction of the course by the tutors, we have a preliminary understanding of this module. Then we investigate the site and some of the precedent cases in Manchester, which gave us a deeper understanding of the design of the community. After all of that, we started the formal community design.

Collision of preliminary ideas

The site is divided into three areas, which are designed jointly by three students. In the first tutorial, we drew the ideas of the site in our mind. Fortunately, our group has a consistent understanding of the site and our sketch looks harmonious. We all believe that the function of public service should be arranged in the center of the site, and residence should be arranged in the periphery. Moreover, judging from the current sketch model, the skyline of the site should gradually decrease from west to east.

Tutors’ guidance of direction

In the tutorial, the tutor put forward some suggestions for modification and improvement. This makes our design more reasonable. In my opinion, this is a very fast brainstorming. Soon we determined the general direction of the whole site. After class, we had a short group discussion and began our work.

Further adjustments to the design

In every tutorial, the tutor will give us new inspiration and guidance. It will not only guide us in the general direction, but also give us a lot of improvement in many design details.

Useful interim review

During the mid-term review, the tutors gave us detailed guidance and evaluation on our scheme, as well as many valuable suggestions. After modifying all the contents, the whole scheme becomes more implementable.

Online design guidance

Due to the epidemic, we have to get the tutorial online. Although some contents are not as convenient as face-to-face tutorial, the tutor still gave us many practical suggestions. At present, we have reached the stage of detailed design. In the next step, we will conduct more detailed design and performance of our key contents. I believe that through the efforts during the easter holiday, we can make the scheme better.

The course inspired me

The promotion of the course is gradual. Although my undergraduate major has nothing to do with the course, I can still understand the whole course well and have made relatively satisfactory progress. I believe that in the future study, we will have a deeper understanding of design and make better result.
