However, rather than just looking from an architectural perspective, we can approach it from an urban designer’s view. An alternative housing method such as multi-generational housing or cohousing could be adapted. Burgess and Muir (2019) suggest living in a multigenerational household arrangement can combat worsening housing affordability and assist young people with their independent away from home but still have a mode of care. A scheme by Levitt-Bernstein, Phoenix Community Housing in Beckenham, where it established an affordable scheme for students living in the shared flats.
Secondly, passive social housing such as Goldsmith Street development in Norwich has redefined what social housing can be like, with shorten back garden and shared communal garden space instead. This enable natural light from both summer and winter to be as effective. With Construction materials details to be energy saving and help reduces space heating by terrace housing arrangement (Passivehouseplus, 2022).
