Measures for Enhancement
Here I am again writing a reflective summary for this semester. Time really flew fast that I didn’t even realise that it’s been nearly 9 months since I left everything back at home. As strange as it sounds, I really wished that time would fly by fast so that I could be done with this loop of learning and unlearning things. But, now that I look back it’s worth every moment of effort, hardwork and dedication.
During the course of this semester I have many momentary convulsions to leave everything behind and run away. It was especially hard with me being affected by covid-19 for the first time, and being far from home, broke me physically and mentally. It has been a tough journey to gather my self esteem into a path and finish this semester. I know I have my shortcomings in many aspects academically and being a master’s student abroad addressed many of them. I’m happy for the place I’m now in but never satisfied. I’m looking forward to the day where I’m happy and satisfied.
Housing alternatives reflections:
This module has been fun and interesting from the start, with the interesting group activities, design tutorials. The initial site visit to Gateshead has been most informative because of the exposure to various kinds of housing typologies, particularly being from a different country the housing style is completely different. I observed during my analysis of the city centre of Gateshead that there are not proper transition spaces. This is in my first blog. Though I have my initial doubts about how the outcomes for the module should be presented, visiting New Islington Manchester cleared most of them. I wrote my third blog on my analysis on a particular housing type in the area. The transition from being an architect to Urban designer has preoccupied my thoughts that it felt a little hard to think as an architect while designing the housing details. Strange!
Urban design and Design codes reflections:
My first visit to Ouseburn valley has me hooked to the place. It is such a place with so much cultural and artistic vibe in it. When I got to know more about the area I wanted to do something more like a public open space with as minimal as built up space. Hence, the idea of enhancing cycling everywhere into the site. This is my second blog about the process of my design and its outcomes.
Conclusion:
Though it’s been tough during the modules, writing blogs has been like a little escape for me from the academic pressure and being more proactive about my voice and opinions here. I remember I promised myself during the last reflection to use more MAUD social platforms and stick to the schedule which I tried hard. Looking forward to the next semester with the already ongoing thesis process and writing my 4th blog on it. It has been an excellent journey so far and I’m looking forward to taking measures towards my skills enhancement.
