Ice-Breaker My Living City-Beijing
I was born and live in Beijing, China. Beijing is the capital of China and the historical and cultural center of the country, as well as the ancient capital of the country.
- Meet the City
Beijing is a super metropolis with a population of 21,886,000 people. It is rapidly modernizing and has a convenient transport system. The city has a long history and modern architecture. I love it all. Beijing allows me to fully appreciate the conveniences of a big city, such as the metro and the buses, which allow me to travel to any place I wish. Also, there are several high-speed trains to the outside world and two international airports for easy external transport, allowing me to have the opportunity to leave whenever I want. - City History
Beijing has a famous cultural heritage such as the Palace Museum, the Great Wall, the Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven. At all stages of development, buildings exist that reflect the character of the era. Every time you stroll through the historical sites, you can appreciate the city’s history and culture.
One of my favorite places is the Forbidden City. The entire layout and structure of the palace were built according to the rituals of feudal society and the theory of the five elements of yin and yang. Also, its unique wooden structure captivated me. I marveled at the exquisite skills of the craftsmen. The Great Wall of China is also my favorite place to visit. The Great Wall is an ancient Chinese military fortress, a long, tall, strong, continuous wall used to keep out enemies. Every time I visit this place, I can see the rolling Great Wall with beautiful views. The Great Wall has survived more than 2,000 years of rain and wind, but it is still unstoppable.

As the city continues to grow and change, people are also transforming the urban space and urban memory is evolving Enjoying the convenience of the city has also brought me a lot of trouble.
The downside of a modern, fast-growing city is that it fails to think holistically. Once the city is filled only with tall buildings or wide streets, we will have to look for these relics in our memories. It has likewise led to an uneven distribution of urban space, a deterioration in environmental quality, and a reduction in green space, while most of the housing is along the streets, with serious noise pollution. The lack of street space and its homogeneous structure, combined with the absence of public space and the lack of street furniture, has led to a serious lack of vitality in the street space environment. In addition, the architecture of the modern city has gradually become “one-sided”, with no distinctive urban character, which has affected the development of Beijing as a historical and cultural city and has caused the original urban character to disappear.
To solve these big city problems, many scholars began to study urban construction and started the journey of modern urban planning. This is also the reason why I studied urban design in the first place, to change the existing urban problems in my hometown with my modest power. Making the city better and faster. Improving its appearance is not an easy task, and it is a difficult one. I want to change the face of the city by designing high-quality designs through my love for the city, which is my greatest ambition.
I call on the people who live here to preserve the history and culture of the city and to promote and showcase the city’s cultural charm.
