First Impression of Urban Design:
My initial reaction to the urban design course has been one of enthusiasm and expectation. I am instantly attracted by the promise of learning about the various and interwoven parts of city planning and architecture as I dig into the curriculum. The course appears to cover a wide range of themes, from architectural principles to the social, environmental and economic factors that affect metropolitan areas. I am excited to learn about the historical history of cities, the difficulties and possibilities that come with urbanization and to investigate new solutions for constructing sustainable, livable and inclusive settings. The combination of academic knowledge and practical applications is promising and I look forward to obtaining the skills and perspectives required to make a meaningful contribution to the subject of urban planning.
What is Urban Design to me?
Urban design to me is the art and science of designing the physical and spatial aspects of cities, which serve as the background to my everyday existence. It represents the deliberate arrangement of buildings, roadways, green areas and infrastructure, which influences not only the functionality of the urban environment but also the overall aesthetic and social experience. It is a prism through which I study the interaction between architecture and public spaces, judging how they meet the community’s different requirements. For me, urban architecture reflects the city’s identity, generating a sense of belonging, increasing accessibility and acting as a canvas for cultural expression. It encapsules my passion for visually appealing streetscapes, useful public facilities and environmentally friendly solutions, all of which contributes to the unique character and livability of the urban spaces I inhabit.
