Reflective Summary: My Blog-Writing Journey

Learning Urban Design
Urban design has been a completely new subject for me, as for years I learned about architecture in general in my undergraduate course—I got a bachelor’s degree in architecture. I used to deal with designs in small scale without having much focus on the bigger context, but with the presence of this Urban Design program, I can get more knowledge on how every aspect in the city correlates with each other and how complex it is to design an urban area. Everything is important, and the combination of them make the city more holistic and collaborative.
Exploring the Blog-Writing
The classes I have got on the course were like the supplement to enhance my design. Through the Principles of Urban Design, I have learned about how every aspect of city needs to be considered and planned thoroughly. For example, making an area inclusive and healthy for our well-being. Those two favourite lectures I attended was so fascinating and making an article for each of them makes me more critical about the subjects themselves. As I am new to blog-writing, even though my writings are not that good, but at least I have put effort and learned about how to structure every sentence and word. Likewise, because the readers of these blogs can be aware of urban design, I expect some are not, and some also do not speak English well, so I need to make my writing more understandable in simple language. Apart from that, the group task enabled me to interact and collaborate with other people with different background and it makes me know more about their cultures and different ways of both designing and blog-writing.
Moving Forward
Personally speaking, some subjects and lectures are hard to be understood by only attending the lectures. That is why this blog is useful: to reflect on those hard subjects by reading other bloggers’ writing. From those blogs, I am able to understand all of the subjects, thanks to them. When this semester and this blog-writing activity is over, I can practice more in writing, and I will definitely write more articles to reflect on my broadening knowledge about urban design as time goes by.
