Background

I graduated from INTO Newcastle University and studied architectural design before my Master’s Program. For me, the urban design profession involves the recognition and understanding of larger-scale spaces. While balancing with architectural details, it requires more consideration of the organizational and spatial relationships between sites and cities.

What does this major mean to me?

I am from Shanghai, and I have experienced the rapid development of this city since I was a child. Witness the progress designers made in the city and what they did wrong in the process. I want to join this industry after I have experienced the changes in these cities and look at the problems and compromises caused by some of the rapid development periods of cities I have experienced in the past from the perspective of a professional practitioner. And think about how to solve and optimize them.
And how to balance the protection of historical buildings with the public’s use of the neighborhood. This cannot be solved by enclosing the buildings with security guards and prohibiting entry. Historical buildings need to be integrated into the current environment and used by people so that part of the urban space is not dead.
