Icebreaker: Who am I and why I choose MAUD

Introduction

Hello everyone! My name is Zhefei Huang, and I’m currently studying Urban Design. Growing up in Shanghai, a city known for its dynamic blend of modern architecture and historical heritage, I’ve developed a deep interest in how well-designed spaces can positively influence people’s lives. The constant evolution of Shanghai’s urban landscape has inspired me to explore the relationship between built environments and community well-being. I chose to study Urban Design because it combines creativity with problem-solving, focusing on creating spaces that are not only functional but also inclusive and sustainable.

Why I choose MAUD

In my studies, I am particularly interested in sustainable development and how cities can balance growth with environmental responsibility. I believe that urban design goes beyond aesthetics—it’s about designing spaces that respond to the needs of diverse communities, promote social interaction, and prioritize accessibility. As cities face challenges from rapid urbanization and climate change, urban design has the power to create resilient, adaptable environments that improve quality of life.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to work on projects that blend innovation with cultural context, designing spaces that connect people while respecting each city’s unique character. I hope to contribute to creating vibrant urban areas that inspire and empower residents, building cities where everyone can thrive.
