Economics and Effective Urban Design

I hope to briefly explain the relationship between the economics approach and effective urban design in this article. Then, consider what impact economics has on urban design and how it can bring practical analysis to urban design.

The relationship between the economics approach and urban design

Economic strategies will provide effective analysis for urban design, such as master plan spending, demographic data, local economic measures, urban generation, growth, and economic relationships. Therefore, in his lecture, Danny Oswell suggested that we consider socioeconomics in urban design using economics and other social science analyses to provide important data to achieve the effectiveness and success of design solutions. The behaviour that cities offer to people is key to design, such as a sense of place. This is balanced with practical analysis and artistic aspects. Therefore, six The Economic Assessment Toolkit are given for the study of data such as Demographics; Income and Wealth; Culture & Heritage; Site & Location; Resources; Market Potential The analysis of data such as ethnicity, religion, age, income and savings, heritage and background, and various resources. The city’s function is clearly expressed in terms of who it will be built for. It avoids the waste of resources and space.

In the case of analysis, the socio-economic data are integrated for the multiple dimensions of the fish pier, such as demography, income and wealth, culture and heritage, location and location, resources, and market potential, to obtain a comprehensive and three-dimensional analysis and interpretation of the results.

For example, the Zero Energy Eco Village, a community in Bedding ton, UK. Located in the south London suburb of Warrington, it covers just under 2 hectares and consists of 82 flats and 2,500 square meters of office space. The community adopts an environmentally friendly and healthy community lifestyle, encouraging residential and office co-development and reducing commuting distances.

In terms of layout, the residential areas face south to allow for light and heating during the day; the workshops are located to the north to reduce the day’s heat and conserve air conditioning resources. As a result, living and working behaviour and energy consumption are aligned.

Also, solar and wind energy installations provide clean energy, sewage treatment and rainwater harvesting systems to recycle water and procure low carbon materials.

Effective economic analysis can help urban design to be better realized, for example, by making it easier to learn people’s needs and reducing the production component.

What is a compelling urban design?

An effective urban design is used regularly by people. Moreover, it should serve different types of people. Urban design is a broad field in which geography, topography, population, resources, and culture directly influence the design and construction of a city. The economic development of a city is an integrated combination of resources. To a certain extent, the role of the economy has a strong influence on urban design, and there is a positive correlation between them. When the economic situation is good, the city will be built more scientifically, rationally, and effectively. When the city’s economy is wrong, the town is built worse. Thus, effective urban design can be distinctly shown in the program’s economic impact.

Nowadays, urbanization is taking place in every country and region. They are rapid and sacrifice many things, for example, the quality of the population, the environment and ecology. Economic factors have also become the reason for this situation. For example, many developers reduce public space and greenery to make more profit. In our site design interviews, people suggested that they would like to have more houses with gardens rather than dense flats. We can therefore develop an innovative alternative plan using economic analysis. The demand and development potential of the city is analyzed on a social and spatial level through figures. Sustainable urban design is based on economically and efficiently relevant disciplines. This leads to the improvement of economical and practical urban design solutions.

Therefore, we need to consider the differences between each city and even location for urban design and programmed implementation. We need to take advantage of their strengths and avoid their weaknesses. Economic analysis is used to make sound and scientific design plans for sustainable urban development on an economic level. Moreover, effective urban design is, of course, not only about the economic implications. It is not enough to analyze economics in design. There is more to developing a scientifically sound and economically efficient urban design.
