Personal Semester Reflexive Summary

My summary of my experience in writing blogs in the first semester is based on my own personal experience. To be honest, because my undergraduate major is interior design, I don’t know much about urban design. Through this course, I have a little understanding of urban design. Urban design has gone through a long evolution from the early days of simply focusing on the aesthetics of architecture to today’s integration of various aspects. Today’s urban design is not just about creating beautiful buildings and streets, but about creating a comprehensive environment that provides people with a better living experience. This change reflects our deeper understanding of the relationship between urban space and human behavior.

I don’t usually come into contact with blogs, because I don’t actually like to write long messages. I always summarize them in short words. This course requires me to complete a lot of reading surveys after class. To be honest, it is quite difficult, not to mention that English is my second language, and reading is not as easy as reading Chinese. However, after a long period of study in the first semester, I think my reading level has improved to a certain extent. But it would be better if I could shorten the reading time. Writing a blog means that writing requires a certain degree of rigor. Although the requirements for writing in this course are not as strict as those for writing essays, it cannot be too casual. It also requires relevant literature as evidence support. For the literature cited in the text, the reference summary must be in the correct format. I think I have done this in this course. I carefully check whether the format of the cited literature is correct.

I like the overall design of this course. There will be two hours every week for us to popularize the knowledge content of various topics. Although the guidance on blog writing is not taught every week, I feel very relaxed during the class. The teacher can also give us feedback on the content quickly, which is especially suitable for learners like me who don’t like serious environments. Moreover, through blogs, I can see different opinions and views expressed by different people on them, which allows me to combine a lot of relevant experiences. For example, some people propose that urban design should be people-centered, and whether it is now or in the future, we must pay attention to meeting the needs of children and building sustainable cities, while others focus on the future city to develop digitalization, and the development of science and technology will promote the rapid development of cities.

Everyone’s opinions may not be completely consistent. Some contents may be similar, while others may be completely opposite, or even controversial. However, there is no right or wrong, because everyone has different opinions from different perspectives. Even design itself is a very subjective thing. As long as it can promote the continuous development of urban design, it is correct to develop in a good direction. Overall, this is a very rewarding design course. Thank you teacher for sharing!
